Residence Massacre TIX to Coins — August 8, 2026

Why Roblox moderation required the currency rename, what changed, and what stayed identical.

TIX to Coins Rename

The Post Lockdown Changes patch landed on August 8, 2026, immediately after the April Fools 2026 event ended. It is a short patch by date but a giant one for the wiki because it renamed the in-game currency from TIX to Coins. Roblox moderation had been warning Tea Studio that TIX branding conflicted with the retired Roblox currency of the same name, so the August 8 patch rebranded every shop label, every quest reward line, and every leaderboard string to Coins.

This page is the canonical reference for the rename. Pair it with the Quality of Life 2026 patch (which shipped a few months later) and the Night 1 Rework (which independently buffed base quest rewards). For the broader context, see the Coins Shop guide, the How to Earn Coins page, and the Mutation Outfit milestone route.

Why the rename happened

Miraheze records the August 8 patch notes exactly as:

  • TIX has been replaced with Coins.
  • The communications-server verification/reward system has been removed.
  • The crate/gambling system has been removed.

The communications-server line refers to the older Discord-verify-for-free-Coins system that Tea Studio piloted in late 2024 and early 2025. It has been progressively trimmed since the Quality of Life 2026 patch and is now fully removed. The crate/gambling line refers to the Cake Crate / Halloween Crate / Christmas Crate cosmetic lootboxes that players could spend TIX on for a chance at hats. Those crates have been replaced by direct hat purchases in the Coins Shop; you now buy the hat you want instead of gambling TIX for a chance to draw it. Cosmetic rarity tiers still exist via shop rotations, but they are no longer randomized.

What stayed identical

Almost everything. The rename is a label change, not a rebalance:

  • All prices are unchanged. The Crowbar still costs 200 TIX, now displayed as 200 Coins. The Medkit still costs 350. The Bloxy Cola still costs 50.
  • All rewards are unchanged. Daily quest rewards, Endless night bonuses, Bloodmoon ×2, and badge index payouts are all the same numeric amounts.
  • All leaderboards, Badge Index progress, and Mutation milestone percentages are unchanged. A 75% badge index still pays Raver. A 100% still pays Mutation plus Completionist.
  • All cosmetics retain their unlock conditions. The Tixsplosion hat (linked to Greedy Endless achievement) keeps the name but now displays under the Coins tab.

In short: if you played before August 8, 2026, your wallet still works the same way — only the label changed. Older Discord screenshots and YouTube thumbnails that say TIX are still accurate as amounts; only the visible string is out of date.

What was removed alongside the rename

The August 8 patch is more than a label swap. Two systems died entirely:

  • The crate/gambling system. The Cake Crate, Halloween Crate, Christmas Crate, and any timed Mini-Crate are gone. Rotating seasonal cosmetics are now sold outright in the Coins Shop with a visible stock count. The Cake Crate returned once for Christmas 2025, but the system underlying it was already deprecated; from August 8 onward, the cosmetic pool re-enters the regular hat rotation without crate RNG.
  • The communications-server verification/reward system. Players who linked their Discord to a verified Tea Studio channel used to receive a one-time TIX grant. That grant is no longer issued, but existing balances are preserved as Coins with no conversion math needed.

Wallet migration checklist

If you have an old TIX balance from before August 8, 2026, no action is required:

  1. The wallet automatically displays Coins after the patch deploy. The number on the screen is the same number you had in TIX the moment the patch shipped.
  2. Quest payouts that were already in flight (you accepted a quest before August 8 and completed it after the patch) pay out in Coins at the new label.
  3. Robux purchases that were already converted to TIX on the Roblox side display as Coins with no conversion fee.
  4. Endless mode rewards continue to accrue under the new label. The +5 for rain/fog and +10 for eclipse/bloodmoon bonuses introduced in the Quality of Life 2026 patch all pay in Coins.

What this means for the wiki

Older guides written before August 8, 2026 mention TIX. This wiki rewrote every Coins-tagged page to use Coins as the primary label and to add a footnote linking back to this rename page for historical context. Pages affected include:

  • Coins Shop — price table now displays in Coins
  • Daily Quests — rewards list now uses Coins
  • How to Earn Coins — title kept the new label even though the file path was already correct
  • Endless — reward math unchanged, label updated
  • True Survivor — Survivor outfit unlock still tied to Night 7 clear
  • Gamepasses — VIP myth fix still applies

If you land on a page that still says TIX, treat it as historical context. The current in-game label is Coins and has been since August 8, 2026.

Why Roblox moderation cared about the TIX name

The original Robux-to-TIX bridge in Roblox was a tradable soft-currency that Roblox itself retired in the early 2010s. While modern Roblox games cannot issue or accept TIX, several older fan-wiki pages and YouTube thumbnails still mention the retired currency. When Residence Massacre began branding its soft-currency as TIX in 2023, it visually resembled the retired currency, which made moderation reviews slower because the team had to confirm each in-game label was a fresh string rather than a deprecated legacy token. Tea Studio ultimately agreed to rebrand to Coins to remove the ambiguity. The change also future-proofs the game if Roblox ever ships a new official tradable currency — Coins is unambiguous.

Frequently asked questions

Is the TIX-to-Coins rename permanent?

Yes. Tea Studio has not signaled any plan to revert. Even if you join a Discord conversation that says TIX, that is historical context — the in-game label is Coins.

Did any prices change?

No. The rename is label-only. The Crowbar still costs 200, the Medkit still costs 350, and Bloxy Cola still costs 50.

Do I need to convert an old wallet balance?

No. Existing balances are preserved as Coins with no conversion math.

Why did the crate system get removed at the same time?

The crate system was already deprecated in the Quality of Life 2026 patch. Removing it alongside the rename consolidated the Coins Shop into a flat catalog — you buy the cosmetic you want rather than gambling for it. It also aligns with Roblox’s safer-monetization push that limited lootbox-style mechanics in late 2025.

Did Discord verification for free Coins survive the rename?

No. The verification system is fully removed. Existing balances are preserved but no new grants will be issued.

Where can I see the rename patch in context?

The full Updates page lists every patch since the August 25, 2023 release. The August 8, 2026 entry sits between April Fools 2026 (April 19) and the Night 1 Rework (August 21).

What about old YouTube thumbnails showing TIX?

Treat them as historical. The amounts are unchanged; only the visible label is out of date. Newer guides and the in-game UI use Coins.
