Residence Massacre Repair Worker — Night 2 Cable-Fix NPC
Where to send him, when to wait, and why sending him onto a Pest cable is a one-way trip.
The Repair Worker is the Night 2 NPC who handles cable repair for the factory’s floodlight system. He appears on the catwalks after The Pest cuts a wire, walks to the broken spot, fixes it in a few seconds, and walks off. He is critical for keeping floodlights online because The Mutant will spawn on any unpowered floodlight. He is also a one-shot NPC if you send him to a cable that still has The Pest on it — that mistake ends the night for the player who issued the command.
This page is the canonical reference for Repair Worker callouts, timing, and co-op assignment. Pair it with the Night 2 walkthrough, the Night 2 modifiers hub, and the Pest entity guide. The Repair Worker is also a key callout in Factory Chaos where multiple Pest events overlap.
How the Repair Worker is summoned
You cannot click the Repair Worker directly. He is summoned through the offices computer:
- Open the Repair System tab on the computers in the offices section. The tab is highlighted when at least one floodlight has a broken wire.
- Click the broken floodlight indicator in the Repair System interface. Each floodlight is labeled with a name like “Power Room Left” or “Back Right Key Area.”
- The Repair Worker spawns at the catwalk and walks to the broken wire. He takes a few seconds to fix it. Once fixed, the broken-cable red exclamation mark above the computer clears, and the floodlight’s flash charge becomes usable again.
If a player tries to send the Repair Worker to a floodlight that does not need repair, nothing happens. The Repair System only enables buttons for broken floodlights.
When to send the Repair Worker
The optimal send window is after The Pest has left the cable. Visual cues:
- The Pest leaves blood drops on the cable before cutting. After cutting, the cable has a red exclamation mark above the computer and a sparkling sound plays.
- The ceiling vent the Pest came from is empty. If the vent is still occupied, sending the Repair Worker will route him into the vent and The Pest will kill him.
- The floor crack that signals The Stalker is not currently active near the broken cable. Stalker does not interact with the Repair Worker directly but its black puddles can slow him down enough to time out the repair.
The rule of thumb is: wait 4–6 seconds after the cable cuts before sending the Repair Worker. Use that window to listen for any Stalker sound cues and to check the vents for residual Pest.
When NOT to send the Repair Worker
Three bad situations:
- Pest is still on the cable. The Pest drops down, stabs the Repair Worker, and disappears back into the vent. The Repair Worker is killed instantly and the cable stays broken. This is the most common co-op mistake.
- Pest is still in the vent above the cable. Same result — Pest drops, kills the worker, retreats.
- All four vents are unmonitored. In the rare case where nobody can confirm an empty vent, send the Repair Worker with the understanding that he might die. Better to lose the worker than leave a floodlight broken indefinitely.
If the Repair Worker is killed, the cable stays broken for the rest of the night and the floodlight cannot be flashed. Players typically compensate by stacking Bloxy Cola sprints and UV Light charges on that side of the factory, since the broken floodlight becomes a guaranteed Mutant spawn point.
Why the Repair Worker matters for co-op
In solo play, you cannot summon the Repair Worker and fix the cable yourself — the worker is the only valid fix mechanic. In co-op, a dedicated computer player who watches the Repair System tab and calls out “Worker going to X” prevents the rest of the squad from chasing the cable. Recommended role split:
- Computer / Worker caller — sits in the offices watching the Repair System, only calls the worker when vents are confirmed empty.
- Radio runner — runs between floodlights clicking radios to scare away ceiling Pest.
- UV Light carrier — keeps a UV Light on the cable route to stun The Stalker if he spawns.
- Battery carrier — runs Generator refills on demand.
Repair Worker and Factory Chaos
In Factory Chaos, the Repair Worker becomes a chokepoint:
- Bloodmoon makes the Repair Worker’s footsteps audible but the worker does not flinch — he will still walk to the broken cable.
- Party events can spawn wire-break or radio-tower strike simultaneously, so the Worker caller has to choose which event to respond to first. Wire-break takes priority because it leaves the floodlight exposed for Mutant spawn.
- Graves spawns skeleton waves behind the factory at the same time as Pest cable breaks. Skeletons will chase the Repair Worker if he walks past them; one skeleton hit drops the Repair Worker in roughly three swings.
- Blizzard slows the Repair Worker noticeably, extending his repair window from “a few seconds” to about 8 seconds. This makes him more vulnerable to Pest retaliation.
In Factory Chaos, players often pre-call the Repair Worker even before a cable is broken — they send him to stand by a likely Pest target so he is already in position when the wire actually cuts. This is technically allowed by the Repair System tab but is considered an exploit by Tea Studio; if you see it in a public co-op lobby, the host usually kicks the offender.
Repair Worker lore
The Repair Worker is one of the few NPCs in Residence Massacre who is not an anomaly. He is a living, non-radioactive human employee of the factory — the same employment status as the Player and the Worker ally during Night 2. His lore role is to underscore that the factory was a real workplace before the radioactive spill mutated the workers in Night 2. The Soldiers who appear at the end of Night 3 reference this lore by treating the Player as a civilian survivor who must be evacuated.
The Repair Worker has no named dialogue during his repair animation, but his catwalk walking path can be used as an audio cue by experienced players. When you hear him walking overhead, you know a fix is in progress.
Frequently asked questions
Can I summon the Repair Worker in solo Night 2?
Yes. The Repair System tab works in solo. The Worker NPC will still walk to the broken cable and fix it, but you cannot have a teammate cover the vents while he walks.
Does the Repair Worker respawn if he dies?
No. Each Repair Worker is unique per game. If he is killed by Pest, no one can fix that cable for the rest of the night.
Can the Repair Worker stun The Stalker if Stalker spawns on his path?
No. The Repair Worker has no defensive tools. If Stalker rampages while he is on the catwalk, the Stalker will continue rampaging and the Repair Worker may be killed by the screen-blackout audio effect.
What is the Repair Worker’s range?
He walks from his catwalk spawn point to whichever broken cable the player selected. Range is essentially the entire catwalk network.
Does the Repair Worker count as an NPC for the Characters page?
Yes. The Repair Worker is part of the broader “factory staff” character roster, alongside the Player, the Worker ally, and the Lead Factory Worker from the Mansion Incident memory.
Is the Repair Worker in Factory Chaos?
Yes, he works in every Night 2 modifier stack. He is one of the most dangerous chokepoints in Factory Chaos because the modifier stack quadruples the threats he can encounter.
Where do I report a Repair Worker bug?
Use the in-game report button or the Official Links page. Repair Worker pathing bugs are tagged with the night-2-repair-system label for routing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Residence Massacre survivors.
How do I summon the Repair Worker?
Open the Repair System tab on the offices computer and click the broken floodlight indicator. The Repair Worker walks from the catwalk to the broken wire.
Can the Repair Worker die?
Yes. If you send him to a cable that still has The Pest on it, the Pest will kill him instantly. There is no respawn — once he dies, the cable stays broken for the rest of the night.
When should I send the Repair Worker?
Wait 4–6 seconds after the cable cuts to confirm the ceiling vent is empty. Listen for Stalker audio cues and check vents before issuing the command.
Is the Repair Worker useful in Factory Chaos?
Yes, but the modifier stack quadruples the threats he can encounter. Assign a dedicated worker caller to manage timing carefully.
